What Is FADIG?

--History, Activities, and Membership--

FADIG stands for "Foreign Affairs Discussion Group" and is called 'Kokusai-Rikai-Kondankai' in Japanese .It is a very friendly and informal English speaking group, offering speeches by foreign guests and by Japanese members at the monthly meetings, usually on Saturday afternoons.
There are about seventy members, and the jobs or positions of them vary; School Teachers, businessmen, homemakers, office clerks, students, etc.

FADIG was first organized by junior and senior high school teachers of English in Osaka a year before EXPO'70 to improve their practical English language ability though exchanging information and ideas in English. The members served as good-will interpreters during the Exposition, and also arranged meetings and school visits for people from abroad.

After the EXPO'70 the monthly meetings have been held at ACC(now American Center)for some time, and later here at K.College of Business & Languages for the last twenty years.
Foreigners from various countries have been invited as guest speakers at the meetings, and also short speeches have sometimes been given by the Japanese members.

FADIG is a non-political and non-commercial organization. The announcement of the meeting is usually put in newspapers, both English and Japanese ones.Anybody can attend the meetings, but it would be appriciated if you become a member and attend the meetings regularly. The membership fee is 4,000 yen a year and is collected 2,000 yen in April and 2,000 yen in October. You are always welcomed to join us.

FADIG has nothing to do with the business of K.College of Business & Languages.
We are just allowed to use a room by the courtesy of this school.
